DTM Starts Second Half of the Season

The sixth round of the 2002 DTM at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz this weekend marks the beginning of the season's second half of Germany's top touring car series. It will also be rookie Stefan Mücke's (24 h Service AMG-Mercedes) first DTM race in front of his home crowd -- the EuroSpeedway is about 130 kms south of Stefan's home town Berlin and usually at-tracts a huge crowd from the German capital.

The track: The DTM use the EuroSpeedway's Grand Prix track which is 3.667 kms long and includes the front and back straights of the tri-oval. The infield features a mixture of slow and fast corners.

Review: This weekend's event is the third appearance of the DTM at the EuroSpeedway, however, there has only been one race so far after the 2000 inaugural event which had been rained out. Last year, Peter Dumbreck drove his Mercedes-Benz CLK-DTM to his first DTM victory in the main event.

Bernd Schneider (Vodafone AMG-Mercedes):

"The spectators can look forward to another exciting DTM race. Last year's event at the EuroSpeedway has proven that there are a lot of overtaking opportunities. However it's not easy to find the right set-up for the combination of slow and fast corners. I enjoy rac-ing here as the huge grandstand and the enthusiastic crowd offer a unique atmosphere."

Stefan Mücke (24 h Service AMG-Mercedes):

"I look forward to this race close to my home town and I expect a lot of sup-porters from Berlin. In the first half of the season -- my first five DTM races -- I learned a lot. Hopefully I can show my friends a good race at the EuroSpeedway."

20-year-old Stefan Mücke, runner-up in the 2001 German F3 Championship, participated in four F3 races at the EuroSpeedway and scored seventh and ninth places in 2000, and two third places in 2001.
