Audi was the top manufacturer in the 2016 round at the Hungarian circuit, locking out the top seven on Saturday and also claiming a 1-2 on Sunday.
The team started the 2017 event in similarly strong fashion, as the top five in Saturday qualifying was made up entirely of Audis.
Jamie Green was the pacesetter early in the session, but Rast lowered the Briton's benchmark by a tenth with his late time of 1m34.742s.
Only Rast managed to beat Green's time, meaning the Briton is set to start from the front row.
However, Green was reported to the stewards for taking the chequered flag twice.
Fellow Audi drivers Mattias Ekstrom, Nico Muller and Mike Rockenfeller were separated by only half a tenth, but were nearly half a second off the pace.
BMW's Augusto Farfus, who is yet to score a point this year, was best of the rest, followed by another Audi of Loic Duval.
Points leader Lucas Auer was the quickest Mercedes in eighth, followed by two Britons Gary Paffett and Tom Blomqvist.
