Super Sports Weekend at Nürnberg: DTM live and Football World Cup Final on Three Giant TV Screens

Sports fans will be able to experience a special DTM Sunday at the fifth round of the 2002 DTM in Nürnberg this weekend. Before the start of the gruelling 44-lap race on Germany's only temporary street circuit, the crowd can watch the Football World Cup final on three large TV screens with 84 square metres each.

Anniversaries: The Norisring speed weekend which is the highlight of the DTM season will be held for the 60th time this year. The inaugural event took place in 1947 - 55 years ago - with two races staged per year on five occasions. Gernot Leistner will be the race director for the 45th time.

Review: The DTM appeared at the Norisring for the first time in 1984 (winner: Winfriegt Vogt, BMW). A total of 23 DTM races have been held there up to 2001. Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo and BMW each scored five victories followed by Opel and Ford, each three, and Audi with two wins. Klaus Ludwig (Opel and Ford) and Nicola Larini (Alfa Romeo) are the only drivers to score three victories each, but could be joined by either Bernd Schneider (Vodafone AMG-Mercedes) or Joachim Winkelhock (Opel Astra V8 Coupé). Both drivers have won twice in the past Schneider in 1995 and 2000 (second race), Winkelhock in 1992 and 2000 (first race).

Bernd Schneider (Vodafone AMG-Mercedes): "The bumpy surface makes braking into the two hairpins quite tricky. The track is a bigger challenge than it looks like, because you always change between full acceleration and hard braking. Nowhere else are the brakes put under more stress. If the weather will be hot, like it often is during the Norisring weekend, the drivers' physical fitness will play a major role for the outcome of the race."
