Van der Zande impresses on race day
Renger van der Zande finished as the leading DTM rookie at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday, claiming tenth behind the wheel of his 2008 specification Mercedes C-Klasse. Van der Zande impressed with his fighting spirit and consistency, posting the sixth fastest time in the race. After a difficult qualifying session on Saturday, the Dutchman showed his true potential and was delighted with the result.

Today I had a super start and a good first lap, so I immediately got past people. Later I got into a battle with Gary Paffett, that was a nice moment."
"He got ahead of me after the first pit stop, and David Coulthard was in front of me after the second. We lost some time between the first and second pit stop and we have to figure out where that was exactly. The speed is very good and in testing on Thursday I was constantly fast. It was unfortunate that I was only thirteenth in qualifying, but this is only my third race weekend. I feel it inside, if we can qualify better, we can score points."
The next race will take place at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz in two weeks' time.
