Former BMW and Renault Formula One driver has come a long way since his rally accident on February of 2011. The Polish driver never gave up the fight to someday return to motor sports after his injuries in the Ronde di Andora rally. Due to the fact that his right forearm was partially severed, it was doubtful that he would ever race any type of car again. His racing career was thought to have ended on that fateful day.
Never say never is a philosophy that many humans have, and Kubica is one of them. Despite a fall on an ice patch near his home in Italy in January of 2012, the Pole still was determined to return to racing. He recovered from his broken his right leg and returned to contest selective rally events.

In November last year, Kubica took his first rally victory in a Citroen C4 at Rally di Como in Italy.
Today, Wednesday 24th, Kubica was behind the wheel of a DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé testing in Valencia, Spain with the German Touring Car Masters teams. Despite his concerns of limited functionality of his fingers, and the rotation of his arm, Kubica completed his first test in a DTM car.
He is aware of his situation and will continue to improve so that he can resume a racing career and if not in Formula One which is still his dream, then perhaps in DTM or one of the many sports car series.
Prior to his test today, Kubica commented on his arm rotation by saying, "I am quite sure this will be ... not fixed, but not a big problem."

After his first time in the Mercedes, Kubica smiled: “I really feel at home in the DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé. My first day of testing in a DTM car was great fun and I learned a lot about the series and the DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé.”
His first run on the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, which he knows well from his days racing Formula 1 grand prix events, Kubica came to grips with touring the track and learning the characteristics of the Mercedes DTM racing machine but he is born racer, and as we all have seen, one who never tosses in the towel. He put in 114 laps. Kubica even had the chance to race on a wet track after a rain shower. Yet he was not deterred by the weather changes and even appeared to embrace it.
“All in all, it was a good experience, getting to know the car in different weather conditions. I was able to get to grips with the DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé and felt very comfortable in the car, even though after my long break it meant adjusting to the high downforce that a state-of-the art DTM race car produces. I’m very pleased with my performance on this first day of DTM testing and had no problems whatsoever in the car,” he said.
Bravo Mr. Kubica!
