The German was just 0.025s quicker than Mortara in the morning, with the Italian's Abt Sportsline teammate Mattias Ekstrom completing an all-Audi top three.

Mercedes driver Robert Wickens ended up as best of the rest in fourth, leading another Audi of Jamie Green and BMW duo Antonio Felix da Costa and Tom Blomqvist.

The afternoon session saw Timo Scheider, who was not among the runners in the morning, keep Audi on top, his time of 1m33.709s half a second off the morning pace.

The two-time DTM champion was just ahead of Augusto Farfus, with Gary Paffett only a tenth behind.

Last year's top rookie Blomqvist, Green, Felix da Costa Costa, Wickens and Timo Glock, who made his return to the track after crashing on Day 1, completed the top eight.
