ANOTHER BRITISH ACE LINED UP FOR SILVERSTONE
FRIDAY, 10 August: The Silverstone round of the 2007 Le Mans Series keeps bringing England's finest back to the UK to race at the home of British motor sport.
Darren Manning is the latest top-line Brit ready to return to his roots. Now based in the US, Manning's full-time drive is with racing legend AJ Foyt's IRL IndyCar Series team.
In what will be his prototype sportscar debut, Manning will drive Embassy Racing's "LM"P2 Radical entry with fellow Brit Warren Hughes and Kiwi Neil Cunningham.
Manning's stunning international career includes victory in the All Japan Formula 3 Championship and victory at the highly prestigious Macau Grand Prix street race - an event also won by Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher.
He went on to become a test driver with the BAR Honda Formula 1 team in 2000 and made his North American debut in 2003 with Walker Racing in the Champ Car World Series.
Manning switched to the IRL IndyCar Series the following year with Chip Ganassi Racing and now drives for Foyt - a motorsport legend renowned for driving a wide variety of cars.
The versatile Brit has also contested the Daytona 24 Hour and represented Great Britain in the A1 Grand Prix championship.
"I have great memories from the early days at Silverstone when I worked there as a driving instructor, I really can't wait to get back there," Manning said.
"This will be my first run in a Le Mans prototype and I am really looking forward to it. A prototype sportscar is about the only type of car that I haven't raced before.
"Everyone I talk to says they are fantastic to drive. I'm actually going to get the chance to do the Spa round prior to Silverstone - that will give me plenty of miles in the car before I get to race at home.
"My team-owner AJ Foyt used to race all sorts of cars in his day - so he is really supportive for me to do the same as long as it doesn't compromise our IndyCar programme.
"WIth our busy schedule in the US, I don't get a lot of time to come home as often as I would like so this is an extra bonus about doing this race."
