ELMS more fun than GP2, says newcomer Coletti

Stefano Coletti believes that the European Le Mans Series is more exciting to compete in than GP2, due to the larger prevalence of overtakes.

Driving for SMP Racing. Coletti finished second in the season opening 4 Hours of Silverstone on his endurance racing debut, partnering with Andreas Wirth and Julian Leal.

The latter part of the race took place in difficult conditions as showers threatened to hit the circuit.
Coletti, however, embraced these conditions in his stint.

Speaking in the post-race press conference, Coletti said: “It’s okay, I actually like driving on slicks in the wet.

"We do it in GP2 as we don’t have intermediate tyres so you just try and keep on going.

“It’s an interesting series and it was an interesting race. It’s a lot of fun to overtake a lot of cars every lap, even if they are slower.”

The Monegasque driver told Motorsport.com after the press conference: “I really like it here, I think the championship is a lot of fun, a lot of competition and very, very high competition and I think we’re going to have to work very hard to get the big cup at the end of the season.

“When you are in a GP2 race maybe you overtake just one car, the guy ahead of you, then it’s just boring and behind the other cars.

“Here there is always something happening, every corner you have a car to pass. It’s a lot of fun.”

Hopeful of future Indy 500 return

Coletti contested a season of IndyCar racing for 2015, where he scored a best finish of eighth and finished 19th overall in the standings.

As part of the campaign, he made his Indy 500 debut, finishing 25th, and admitted he would like to have at least one more attempt at the famous race.

Coletti said: “I’d like to do the Indy 500 at least once more because it’s an amazing race. I think last year it ended badly because we had some bad luck, there was a crash in front of me that we couldn’t avoid. I hope I can do it again some time.”
