Theys, Lienhard to Compete in LMES Race at Monza This Weekend in Horag-Lista Racing Lola Judd
MONZA, Italy, July 7 - The new Lista Lola B05/40 Judd V8 has been delivered and prepared, the pre-race testing was recently completed in the Czech Republic, and now Didier Theys, Fredy Lienhard Sr. and the rest of the Horag-Lista Racing team are ready to join the Le Mans Endurance Series (LMES) at its race at Monza, Italy this weekend.
Lista, the worldwide leader in modular storage units, is the primary sponsor of the No. 27 that will compete in the LMES' LMP2 class in Europe as well as at the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta Motorsports Park in Braselton, Ga. Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
The team will use Michelin tires.
This weekend's race is a 1,000-kilometer event that will take about six hours to complete.
"Testing went very well, although it was very hot and humid and it rained," Theys said. "We had some things to sort out with the electronics, but overall things went well. There are a lot of things that can happen in any race, especially with a brand-new race car. We are very pleased to be running on Michelin tires. We're starting mid-way through the season, and we're all anxious to get a race under our belts."
Lienhard concurred. "After Monza, we will know more!" he said. "After our first tests I have a better feel of what is coming. The car is kind of perfect for me because it is only 750 kg, and that makes it a little bit easier for me. The technology is fantastic, especially the power steering and the paddle shift system.
"I have always like the open-cockpit cars, and for the rest of my career I don't want to race anything else anymore.
"Monza is a great track but quite demanding," Lienhard continued. "The biggest challenge for me is the braking. I have to get used to that again. Braking from 300 km to around 80 with carbon brakes is something very special. It takes courage and strong nerves.
"I look forward to the challenge, but as always after a long break (my last race was in Watkins Glen with Doran Lista Racing just a year ago!) I am a little bit nervous, but I trust that with a good attitude and good teamwork, especially with Didier and Markus [Hotz, the team owner], I will be OK."
