SPYKER SQUADRON MONZA FREE PRACICE

Monza, 13 April 2007 Spyker Squadron completed two free-practice sessions today in preparation for the Le Mans Series race this Sunday. The race, the first 1000km race in the Le Mans Series this season, is held at the famous `Autodromo Nazionale Monza'. This season Spyker will enter one Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R (#85) in the Le Mans Series driven by Dutchman Peter Kox and Czech Jarek Janis.

In the first one-hour session the team worked on the setup of various components such as ride height, tire pressure and shock absorbers. After the first session the team made some adjustments to the car; Spyker Squadron was one of the few able to improve their fasted time in the second session which was stopped about ten minutes early due to an unfortunate accident; one of the Luc Alphand Corvette's caught fire in the pit lane and priority was given to the emergency vehicles to transport two injured mechanics to a nearby hospital.

Jarek: "Overall I am quite happy with the car handling and braking were great but I wished that engine had a bit more power to be really competitive here. It was the first time that I used the Dunlop tires; they are a bit different compared to the Michelins we used at Sebring and tomorrow, together wit Dunlop, we need to figure out if we can double-stint the tires during the race."

Peter van Erp: "Due to the high speed nature of the track we knew would be the most difficult circuit of the series for us. Mechanically the car is perfect but, as Jarek says, we need to improve our top speeds. We are 2.3 seconds behind the top cars in class, about the same as at Sebring and Paul Ricard, so in the race we will focus on reliability and strategy."

A third free practice session is scheduled for Saturday morning followed by a 20 minute qualifying session. The race will start this Sunday at 13:00 and will be broadcasted at MotorsTV.
