Ginetta-Zyteks Show Race Winning Pace Again
Promising practice session for the Repton-built cars
The Ginetta-Zyteks again showed race winning pace in yesterday's practice for the ADAC 1,000km of Nurburgring, fourth round of this year's Le Mans Series. Danny Watts in the Strakka Racing LMP1 Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S finished the evening session in second position, having also led for much of the first practice period. In the LMP2 class, Oliver Pla in the Quifel-ASM GZ09S finished first in the opening session and even led overall for a while on a drying track.
Danny, who put the black, 4.5-litre Strakka car onto pole position earlier in the season at Barcelona, was the first to go quickly in the 12.55pm session. He was still up front at the half way mark before, as the track dried out, passing the wheel over to team mate Nick Leventis. Then, with 20 minutes to go, Olivier in the LMP2 Ginetta-Zytek went quickest overall, ahead of all of the LMP1s.
As the early afternoon session drew to a close, so the sun came out and dried the track. The LMP1 contenders moved into their customary position at the front but the 3.4-litre Quifel-ASM car held on to seventh overall as well as first in the LMP2 category.
The track was completely dry for the 4.55pm session and Danny again showed his undoubted ability and the car's speed with second place overall, springing up from sixth in the final six minutes. Olivier and team mate Miguel Amaral ran on old tyres in this session, simply concentrating on set up for the race, but nevertheless still finishing second in class.
In the second practice session the GAC Racing Team Zytek 07S of Philipp Peter, Karim Ojjeh and Claude-Yves Gosselin continued to show that it has now become a LMP2 front-runner with third place in class.
Yesterday was an issue free day for all the Zytek-engined teams, which also included the WR Salini of the Salini brothers Stephane and Philippe, and Tristan Gommendy. They now all look forward to this afternoon's qualifying session.
