Quifel-ASM Team drivers Oliver Pla and Miguel Amaral have once again taken their Ginetta-Zytek to victory in the LMP2 class of a Le Mans Series round. As during the previous race in Portugal the pair were more than two laps ahead of their nearest rival at the end of the ADAC 1,000km of the Nurburgring.
Olivier and Miguel are now closing in on the Le Mans Series LMP2 championships for teams and drivers, and are in a commanding position before the final round at Silverstone on September 13.
The Portuguese team's 3.4-litre Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S led the class for most of the 195-lap race. Towards the end, it was running as high as fifth overall and in amongst the LMP1s before a last minute pit stop dropped it to sixth. It was yet another supreme performance from the Repton-built car.
"I am absolutely delighted with the result," said Olivier. "The car was perfect throughout the race and I am now looking forward to the next round at Silverstone."
Both the other two Zyteks in the race faired less well despite again proving highly competitive. In the race for overall honours the 4.5-litre LMP1 Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S of Strakka Racing was again amongst the front-runners with driver, Barcelona pole winner, Danny Watts underlining the fact that this is one of the quickest LMP1s available. The GAC Racing Team Zytek 07S of Philipp Peter, Karim Ojjeh and Claude-Yves Gosselin, having been second to the Quifel-ASM car in qualifying, finished fifth in class and tenth overall. Some minor technical issues caused an unscheduled pit stop which unfortunately lasted too long for the car to finish on the podium again.
The Zytek teams now move on to the Autosport 1,000km of Silverstone. Joining them at the world famous Northamptonshire track with be a second 4.5-ltre LMP1 Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S of Team LNT driven by no less a person that 1992 World Champion Nigel Mansell.
