Team Bruichladdich: back with a bang in Portugal!
The Algarve 1000 kms marks the halfway stage of the 2010 Le Mans Series for all the teams. Thor-Christian Ebbesvik will be back with the Team Bruichladdich for the Portuguese round after his accident in the Spa 1000 kms.
He came to cheer on the team at the Le Mans 24 Hours, but was unable to race in the Sarthe event as he hadn't fully recovered from his fractured vertebrae following his accident in the Belgian Ardennes. "I'm here. I'm doing pretty well, but I'd much prefer to be out there fighting on the track," he quipped in June. His wish will be fulfilled this weekend in Portugal.
Tim Greaves and Karim Ojjeh are full of praise for their Norwegian team-mate who made a stunning debut in the Le Mans Series, including a spectacular fight back at Spa before his accident. So this very talented trio will be reunited this coming weekend in the Algarve: "We hope Thor-Christian will be back in top form as Portimao is a difficult circuit."
In addition to the many blind corners on the Portuguese layout and extreme heat, this race is the only one this year in which the Le Mans Series teams will race at night. Karim Ojjeh has good memories of the first Algarve 1000 kms held last year, as it was where he scored his only podium finish of the 2009 season at the wheel of the same Zytek 09S used this year by the Team Bruichladdich. Thanks to several notable evolutions the car will be gunning for a podium finish in the LM P2 category, and its main rivals will be the Acura and the other Zytek run by the Quifel-ASM team.
This year, the gaps are very small in LM P2 and the battle is so intense that the slightest technical hiccup can prove very expensive. In the last two races of the 2010 Le Mans Series on the Le Castellet and Spa-Francorchamps circuits, the Team Bruichladdich was a regular top-5 contender whether in free practice, qualifying or in the race itself. Fifth was also where the team finished in the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours in the LM P2 category. This result has boosted Ebbesvik's, Graves' and Ojjeh's ambitions and all three have a single objective - the best possible result. And why not a podium finish at the end of the long Portuguese night?
