First time that the Krimskoye Porsche has not been on the podium in 2007

The Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium based Muhlner Motorsport Team entered two Porsches in the ADAC-Barbarossapreis-Rennen, the 8th round of the German Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring.

However, alongside the Krimskoye Porsche (nr 696) was not the normal 911 with the blue design (nr 695), rather a new one for Wilfried Schmitz (Setterich) who had a 2007 model Supercup Porsche, rebuilt for the demands of the Nurburgring Nordschleife and with start number 697.

For Wilfried Schmitz, with year of success in front wheel drive machinery on the Nurburgring, and his driving partner Marcel Engels (Willich-Anrath), whose roots were in formula car racing, this represented a first outing with a Porsche in a race so the priorities lay in getting to know the car and learn the limits.

Both mastered their Porsche debut with bravado, bringing the car home in one piece and taking 7th in the competitive class. "For our first outing I am very happy" said Schmitz after the race "I spun twice quite early in my stint and thereafter it took me a while to get my confidence back, but then I was able to continually improve"

Engels, who did the first and last stints, was also satisfied: "For the first time out, I can live with my lap times, but both Wilfried and I have a lot of potential. We see the balance of 2007 as our learning period and are looking for a suitable 3rd driver so that we can be a force to be reckoned with in 2008."

In the Krimskoye Porsche, the regular drivers Jochen Krumbach (Eschweiler) and Heinz-Josef Bermes (Willich) were joined by the Englishman Jonathan Baker. Krumbach did the first stint and by dint of his consistently good lap times and the good strategy, he was once again able to pit as leader in the class. Baker took over for the second stint and handed over to Bermes for the final stint after nine laps. For the first time in 2007 the Krimskoye Porsche did not get a podium, finally seeing the chequered flag in 6th place.

"After Jochen's customary strong first stint, we were simply not quick enough today. But both cars ran without problems or unplanned pitstops through the race. Our mechanics did a reliable job in preparing the cars and the drivers avoided any accidents so in that regard it was a good race. With Wilfried and Marcel we've gained two further regulars for the team who have faith in our abilities and that obviously gives us a good deal of satisfaction." Summarised team boss Bernhard Muhlner before looking forward to the coming races: "we are hoping to run all three cars at the remaining races. And in order to keep Jochen in the lead of the unofficial class points table we need to score good points in both"

The final two races are on the 13th and 27th of October.
