After some organisational changes, the calendar of the 24H SERIES, the world's first championship of 24-hour races for touring cars, GTs and 24h- specials, has now been finalised. Following the successful third running of the TOYO TIRES 24H of Dubai in January, the season will continue after the summer holiday with the 24H EuroSpeedway in the German Lausitz-region on August 16th and 17th, the 12H Hungaroring at the Grand Prix circuit near Budapest in Hungary on September 27th and the 24H Valencia in Spain on October 11th and 12th. More than 40 teams have already registered to participate, says Gerrie Willems on behalf of race promoter, Creventic BV. That makes us optimistic for a good inaugural season.
The success of the TOYO TIRES 24H of Dubai with its unique atmosphere and its strong entry has led to the creation of the 24H SERIES. We want to have this atmosphere during the other events as well. To achieve this, we are closely working together with the experienced people of the DNRT who help us with the organisation. The DNRT will be involved entirely or partly in all rounds of the 24H SERIES, says Gerrie Willems. Free access to the public at all the races is part of the philosophy behind the 24H SERIES. Only for access to the paddock, a small fee is due: 10 Euros for a one-day pass or 17.50 Euros for the entire event from Friday till Sunday.
While the state-of-the-art EuroSpeedway Lausitz complex and the circuit of Valencia will be hosting 24-hour races, the race at the Hungaroring has been shortened to a duration of 12 hours. Environmental groups have enforced that since the beginning of this year, driving at the Hungaroring is no longer permitted after 22.00 h. As a result, we agreed with the cicuit management to run a twelve-hour-race, says Willems. He is well pleased with the calendar. All the circuits are beautiful facilities, well- known from top-class categories like Formula 1, DTM, WTCC or A1GP.
At the moment, the team of race promoter, Creventic BV is very busy promoting the different events of the 24H SERIES. In the past few weeks, we have been visiting numerous race meetings in order to inform teams about our races, says Gerrie Willems. We visited the DTM at Hockenheim, the VLN series at the Nurburgring and race meetings at the circuits of Poznan in Poland, the Hungaroring, the circuit of Vallelunga in Italy and Zolder in Belgium. Everywhere, our plans are being met with enthusiasm and that also has led to more than 40 teams who already have registered. Meanwhile, the date for the fourth edition of the TOYO TIRES 24H of Dubai has also been set. This race will be held on Friday, January 9th and Saturday, January 10th, 2009.
