The 24-hour race is held on the long and difficult famed Norschleife layout of the Nürburgring.

BMW has entered nine M6 GT3s in this race. Schubert Motorsport runs the No. 20 car driven by Kuno Wittmer, Bruno Spengler, German ace Jörg Müller and Finland’s Jesse Krohn.

Kuno Wittmer is a BMW works pilot in the United States, driving for BMW RLL Team. Bruno Spengler, who now resides in Switzerland, is also a works driver for BMW in the DTM where he's a member of Team RBM. Spengler is also the 2012 champion of the DTM.

Brazilian Augusto Farfus set the fastest time in the first qualifying session, claiming provisional pole for the No. 43 Schnitzer Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 with a time of 8:22.307. Spengler and Wittmer set the 12th fastest time.

In the second qualifying session, Jochen Krumbach planted the No. 22 Ferrari 488 GT3 on pole with a time of 8:14.591. The Canadian duo again were 12th overall with a time that is 6.302 seconds slower than the Ferrari on pole.

The 24-hour marathon will start this Saturday at 15h30 local (3:30 pm local, 9:30 am ET) and will end at the same time on Sunday.
