One of the first motor sports events of the New Year is the 24 hours of Dubai. The race brings in top manufacturers and drivers who take on the unique endurance contest. Now in its sixth year, the action started today and will continue until the checkered flag waves to crown the 2012 winning team.
The contest on the 5.390 kilometres Dubai Autodrome consists of current and new cars from the worldwide GT class plus the Touring cars and even a few 24H Specials. The spectators who attend and now those who will follow the live feed will see Porsche 997s and the Porsche Cup cars. Plus there will be teams with the Ferrari F458 Italia racing machines and BMWs, Nissans, Corvettes and Aston Martins. Included in the field are the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the Audi R8 LMS cars.
Rob Barff took the fastest qualifying time for the AUH Motorsport Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 team. The Briton’s time of 2:02:092 landed the UAE-based team the pole over a field of 74 cars! “We realized after the first session what the target was and we had to up the pace. It was a good lap which came late in my stint. It is great to be on pole here in Dubai on our home circuit,” said Barff.
