Preparations TOYO TIRES 24H of Dubai well underway

GENNEP (December 13th, 2008) There is less than one month to go before the start of the first major motor racing event of 2009: the TOYO TIRES 24H of Dubai. The fourth running of this race will be held at the Dubai Autodrome on January 8th, 9th and 10th, 2009. The cars and the equipment of the participating teams have been shipped from Rotterdam and are on their way to Dubai. In spite of these economically challenging times, we are happy that we still have more than 80 cars participating in our race, says Gerrie Willems on behalf of CREVENTIC BV, the Dutch agency that is in charge of organisation and promotion of the Dubai event. The entry list includes names like ex-Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert, touring car stalwarts Roland Asch and Kurt Thiim and GP2 driver Ho Pin Tung, to name just a few.

With the three events held so far, CREVENTIC has proven its organisational skills and expectations for the fourth edition of the endurance race are high. Many teams have already included their participation in the TOYO TIRES 24H of Dubai as a regular fixture in their season planning, says Willems. Just like in previous years, a strong international field is expected for the race in the Gulf state. Last year, we had drivers from 37 countries and although that is quite unique, I think that we will be quite close to that mark this time again, says Gerrie Willems.

The preliminary entry lists shows a great variety of cars and quite a lot of famous names from the ranks of national and international motorsport. There will be 20 different car brands on the grid, ranging from the tiny Ford Fiesta ST up to the impressive machinery in the biggest categories, such as Porsche 997 GT3, BMW M3 GTR, Ferrari F430 and CREVENTICs own Audi CR-8. British ex-Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert will be racing at Dubai for the first time, he has been entered with a Nissan 350Z of British team RJN Motorsport. German touring car stalwart Roland Asch, the winner of many DTM races, will be there as well. He is set to race a Porsche 997 for the German Besaplast Racing Team, with his son Sebastian Asch and former DTM champion Kurt Thiim among his team-mates. GP2 driver Ho Pin Tung has been entered with a Mosler MT900 GT3 run by Gravity Racing from Luxemburg.

Huge interest for Le 24H DAKAR

The second event that CREVENTIC is working on will be run under the banner of Le 24H Dakar at the new circuit of Dakar-Baobabs near the capital of Senegal from February 20th till 22nd. There already is quite a lot of interest for this event, too, reports organiser Gerrie Willems. Some teams are using the opportunity and will have their cars shipped directly from Dubai to Dakar. The other race cars will be leaving from Rotterdam mid-January. There are still places on the grid for the inaugural edition of Le 24H Dakar.
