Plenty of interest for 12H of Hungary

GENNEP - Teams and drivers from various countries have already registered to compete in the third edition of the 12H of Hungary. On October 8th and 9th, the Hungaroring, the Grand Prix circuit close to the Hungarian capital of Budapest, will again host the endurance race for touring cars, GTs and 24h specials. "Some 35 teams have already entered for the race", says Gerrie Willems on behalf of Dutch agency, Creventic, the organisers of the race. "Many teams are considering the race in Hungary as an ideal way to prepare for the sixth running of our other competition, the Dunlop 24H of Dubai, which will take place from January 13th till 15th, 2011. Other teams are just focussing on the race in Hungary, for which some slots on the starting grid are still available. The registration is still open."

The Hungaroring is beautifully located in the rolling hills near Budapest and is being considered as a fast and challenging circuit for drivers. Additionally, the city of Budapest itself, with its nice historic city centre and its natural spas and swimming pools, provides plenty of opportunities to spend a couple of days. With an average temperature around 20 degrees in October, conditions in Hungary are still quite pleasant in autumn. "Two years ago, we organised our 12-hour race there for the first time and it was an instant success with teams and drivers", says organiser Gerrie Willems. "Next to the teams that are also competing in the Dubai 24 Hours, there are also numerous teams from Hungary and other central- European countries taking part in this race."

Minor regulation changes to ensure better competition

A little less than two months prior to the event, the provisional entry list already includes teams from 18 countries with nine different car brands. Prior to the 12H of Hungary, the organisation has made some changes in the regulations in order to enhance competition in the various classes. "To that aim, we have introduced two separate categories for the Porsche 996 Cup and the Porsche 997 Cup", says organiser Gerrie Willems. "Another major change involves the A6 class. This class has been extended now that we have dropped the maximum engine capacity of 4000 cc. As a result, many different cars to the international GT3 regulations can now be accommodated." A comprehensive list of all the changes, which also apply to the Dunlop 24H of Dubai, can be found on the websites www.24hungaroring.com and www.24hseries.com

On Friday, October 8th, free practice will take place from 15.00 till 16.45 h, followed by qualifying from 17.15 till 18.45 h. In the evening, there is an additional free practice session from 19.30 till 21.30 h. On Saturday, warm-up is scheduled from 8.00 till 8.30 h while the race starts at 10.00 h and ends at 22.00 h. A tyre service is available for the teams, but its use isn't mandatory.
