Lynn, Scheider among additions as BMW unveils Nurburgring line-up

BMW has announced its works driver line-up for the 2017 edition of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, headlined by the arrivals of GP2 race winner Alex Lynn and two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider.

Lynn has served as Williams F1 development driver for the past two years, during which he amassed five wins in GP2.

The Briton has prior endurance racing experience, having contested three WEC LMP2 rounds with Manor in addition to a Prototype-class outing in the Gulf 12 Hours.

Scheider, meanwhile, joins the BMW roster on the heels of having been dropped from Audi's DTM line-up, which he had been part of since 2006.

He will focus on campaigning a Ford Fiesta in World Rallycross this season, but will join BMW for the Nurburgring event - which he won back in 2003 with Opel.

Also joining the line-up are former BTCC frontrunner Tom Onslow-Cole and GT ace Marc Basseng.

Full roster

BMW's works line-up for the Nurburgring event will continue to comprise two cars each from Schubert and ROWE Racing - with Team Schnitzer, which has recently ceased being a BMW DTM squad after the series downscaled to 18 cars, also entering.

Alexander Sims, Philipp Eng and Maxime Martin return after having led the BMW charge with a fifth-place finish last year, a feat they had accomplished alongside Dirk Werner, who has since left for Porsche.

Martin is joined by fellow DTM drivers Marco Wittmann, Bruno Spengler, Augusto Farfus and Tom Blomqvist.

Antonio Felix da Costa and Martin Tomczyk, who exited BMW's DTM line-up at the end of last year, will also be present, the former making his BMW 24-hour debut.

Also named are Ford GT driver Richard Westbrook, regulars Jens Klingmann, Jesse Krohn, Nick Catsburg and Markus Palttala, IMSA drivers John Edwards and Kuno Wittmer, and two-time Nurburgring 24h champion Jorg Muller.
