Rotek Racing on a recovery drive as darkness descends over Nürburgring

Following Kevin Gleason’s heroic drive in the opening stint of the 2014 24 Hours of Nürburgring, Rotek Racing are currently on a charge as the demanding race nears the six-hour mark.

After propelling the team to a high of 40th after two hours, Daryl O’Young then took over the reigns of the Audi TTRS from Gleason and set climbing the leader board, but disaster struck for the team shortly after leaving the pits.

A fuel pump issue brought the car to a halt on the back part of the Nordschleife, but fortunate enough, the car was quickly recovered and towed back to the pits, giving the Rotek team time to resolve the issue and continue in the world’s most demanding endurance race.

The team worked resolutely and after losing four laps to their class rivals, dropped the TTRS off the jacks and onto the garage floor, where it would rejoin the race and begin its charge.

O’Young explored the very limits of the 16 mile track and at the end of his stint had reduced the deficit to just two laps and moved up into second in class before handing the car over to the 2012 World Touring Car Champion, Rob Huff.

Having undertaken his commitments in the WTCC earlier in the day at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps, Huff straight away put his foot down and set the fastest time of the session, a 8m54.123s to go four-seconds faster than the qualifying best, which was made even more impressive due to the Newmarket-domiciled driver running on used tyres and avoiding debris from earlier incidents littering the track.

As darkness begins to descend over the iconic German circuit, Rotek Racing are running a high of 22nd overall and second in class.
