Father and Son Australian Championship Leaders Team up to take on Malaysia
David Wall, current Australian GT Championship leader, and his father Des Wall, currently leading the Australian Sports Sedan Championship, will be teaming up to take on some of Asia's best teams and drivers at the Merdeka Millennium Endurance 12 hour race at the Sepang Circuit next week.
David is currently dominating the Australian GT Championship, winning six of the last seven races with his worst result of the season being second place.
With David and Des leading their respective national championships have entered the record books as a highly successful father/son combination and they are hoping they will be able to add to that by finishing on the podium in the Merdeka Millennium race next weekend.
They will be joined in the endurance race by fellow New South Welshman, Barton Mawer who joined David in last year's race.
David and Barton were joined by Damien Flack last year and scored an unexpected podium finish. This year David believes they have what it takes to at least match that finish, with the team aiming for at least a top five finish.
"With a grid of over 50 cars expected to line up on the grid, the race is going to be a fantastic challenge against some of the best drivers and teams in Asia," said David.
"We have made significant improvements to the car and we are confident that we have what it takes to compete over there."
David heads to Malaysia early next week, but before then he will be hitting the track on Friday at Sandown Raceway with V8 Supercar team Wilson Security Racing. David will be joining the team in this year's endurance races, and will run in the co-driver test session to get used to the car in preparation for the races later in the year.
"With just six weeks before the first endurance race I am keen to get as much time in the car as I can," said David.
"Racing in the 12 hour race at Sepang will be a good opportunity to get some useful endurance racing miles under my belt in the lead up to the Phillip Island endurance race in September.
"There are only limited endurance race opportunities available each year, but I will have competed in the Bathurst 12 hour, where I finished just off the podium in 4th place, and the Merdeka Millennium Endurance before heading to Phillip Island."
David would not be racing this year without the continued support PR Technology, one of Australia's largest independent Porsche specialists, Payce, Mount Aqua and Shannons Insurance.
