United Autosports will be heading to the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12-hour race at the beginning of February (7th-9th) with Audi Sport customer racing driver Markus Winkelhock behind the wheel.

Markus will join United regular Mark Patterson and newcomer Eric Lux in the Audi R8 LMS ultra, as they take on the Mount Panorama circuit in one of the world’s most hotly contested endurance races. As well as being an Audi sport customer racing driver, Markus also won the 24-hour Nürburgring race in 2012 and became the FIA GT1 World Champion in the same year.

He was also an Audi factory driver for four years in DTM and has had Formula One experience, after racing in, and at one point leading, the 2007 European Grand Prix for the Spyker F1 team.

United Autosports are hoping for a change in their luck at the Australian track after being forced to withdraw from the 2013 race with 10 minutes to go, when heavy rain caused a crash, which meant the car was left with irreparable damage.

Mark Patterson will join the team again for the endurance race, having raced in the Bathurst 12 hours with United for the past three years. Eric Lux will also join the team for 2014, in his debut outing with United.

The race will start at 06.15 local time on Sunday 9th February.

Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports: “We are delighted with our driver line up for the 2014 Bathurst 12-hour race. To have Markus on board is a great advantage to us with his Audi knowledge and skill. To have Mark with us again is fantastic as he is such a consistent driver and one of the best gentlemen drivers out there.

Plus he knows his way around the Mount Panorama track. It is also great to welcome Eric into the team in what will be our third visit to the Australian race. We are hopeful of a good result this year after a strong showing last year, at one point we were the leading Audi on track, but unfortunately that campaign ended abruptly with only 10 minutes to go so hopefully this year will be significantly more successful.”
