Watch lightning strike Mount Panorama ahead of Bathurst 12 Hour

Video of lightning striking the top of Mount Panorama has made headlines in Australia just days out from the 2019 Bathurst 12 Hour.

A spectacular thunderstorm circled the regional New South Wales town on Monday evening local time, vision of lightning hitting the top of The Mountain caught from the window of a passenger car.

Bathurst is known for its wild weather, perhaps the most famous example being the torrential downpour that stopped the 1992 Bathurst 1000 and saw Jim Richards and Mark Skaife declared winners on a lap count back despite hitting the wall.

The 12 Hour is no stranger to rain either, with Shane van Gisbergen starring on slick tyres during a mid-afternoon storm midway through the 2013 race.

Track activity for this year's 12 Hour is set to kick off on Thursday with support category running, as well as a special inner-city parade for a handful of the GT3 contenders.

The entire star-studded GT3 field will then hit the track for first official practice on Friday morning.

Motorsport.com and Motorsport.TV will be providing full on-the-ground coverage of the event.
