Ghorpade made a racing return with DAV racing, last month after a long injury lay-off and scored points in his debut race in the season.

The championship moved to Spa this past weekend for the sixth round as the rivalry resumed at the Belgium circuit.

The Indian started the wet and cold weekend with a 16th and 13th place finishes in the two practice sessions which was topped by Tanart Sathienthirakul (West-Tec) and Vitor Baptista (RP Motorsport) respectively.

Points in second race

It was a wet Saturday qualifying where Ghorpade finished 16th as he opted for a wrong set-up which put him on the backfoot.

Konstantin Tereshchenko (Campos Racing) took pole ahead of Baptista and Sathienthirakul for the first race of the weekend.

In a dry race on Saturday, Ghorpade showed strong pace and finished 12th as Baptista took the win from Tereschenko and Ghorpade's teammate Leonardo Pulcini.

On Sunday, it was a wet qualifying again as Ghorpade, this time on the right set-up, improved his time to finish 11th. Baptista took pole from Sathienthirakul and Tereschenko.

Damp conditions in the second race saw Ghorpade finishing 10th, scoring a valuable point. The Indian had a race long battle with Yu Kanamaru.

They both traded places but Ghorpade showed strong pace and managed to keep 10th on a drying track as Baptista won from Tereschenko and Igor Walilko (RP Motorsport).

"The conditions were treacherous and changing all the time which is typical Spa," Ghorpade told Motorsport.com.

"By the end, l was one of the quickest in sector 1 and 3. I made a small error midway or else, I could have moved up a couple of places.

"I was pleased to get another race weekend under my belt, and then there was the thrill of taking Eau Rouge at full throttle in the wet and dry conditions," he added.

Looking ahead at Monza next month, he said: "With two solid race weekends completed, it is time to go to on attack mode.

"I have been a little cautious so far, focusing more on race pace and completing the long races. Expect this to change," he warned his rivals.
