Silverstone EF Open: Pulcini dominates Race 1, Ptak takes maiden win in Race 2

Championship leader Leonardo Pulcini took an easy win in the first Euroformula Open race at Silverstone, while Antoni Ptak claimed his maiden win in Race 2, after contact between Pulcini and Colton Herta.

Starting on pole for Race 1, Pulcini was dominant from the start as he built a handy gap to Carlin’s Herta and maintained it throughout the 15-lap race.

The Campos driver claimed his fourth win of the season finishing 4.933s ahead of Herta, who took his maiden Euroformula Open podium.

Behind the two was RP Motorsport’s Antoni Ptak, the Polish driver made up two places having started fifth, taking his first EF Open podium as well.

Drivex School’s Ferdinand Habsburg made a bold decisive move over Damiano Fioravanti around the outside of Stowe corner to finish fourth.

The RP Motorsport driver fought back but settled for fifth ahead teammate Enaam Ahmed, the duo separated by 0.798s at the chequered flag.

Pulcini’s teammate Diego Menchaca was seventh with the lead Fortec of Igor Walilko a distant eighth.

Vladimir Atoev and Kusiri Kantadhee completed the top 10, the latter surviving a spin while battling with 11th placed Julio Moreno to claim final points.

The start of the race was dramatic in the midfield when Tanart Sathienthirakul and returning Ameya Vaidyanathan made contact, both retiring on the opening lap.

Ptak takes maiden EF Open win

In Race 2, Carlin's Herta bogged down from pole as Ptak took control while Habsburg fended off a battling Fioravanti, Herta and Pulcini to slot into second.

Ptak and Habsburg opened up a gap in front when Herta and Pulcini collided behind them, heading into the gravel.

Herta pitted for a change of tyres but after six laps retired with a heavily damaged car. Pulcini managed to finish the race dead last, 31.818s behind Gulhuseyn Abdullayev.

Up ahead Ptak maintained position as Habsburg closed in, but the Polish driver had enough of a gap to take his maiden EF Open win, even with a rain scare on the final lap.

Habsburg ended second, also taking the rookie honours, comfortably ahead of Fioravanti, who sealed the final podium slot.

Behind them were Ahmed and Kusiri in fourth and fifth respectively, both claiming their best results of the season.

Menchaca ended sixth with Walilko seventh ahead of the battling cars of Ye Hongli, Moreno, Atoev and Vaidyanathan, for the final three points scoring positions.

Hongli triumphed in the fight, also stepping on the rookie podium, finishing eighth after tussling first with Vaidyanathan and then Moreno.

Moreno finished ninth with Atoev 10th, both benefiting after Indian Vaidyanathan went wide twice in two laps to finish 11th, missing on his first main standings points.
