Lacko's closest rival in the title fight, local ace Norbert Kiss, experienced a weekend largely to forget in front of his home crowd.

Kiss started the weekend on a positive note as he sent his fans wild with victory in race one, holding off rival Jochen Hahn’s Iveco to score his third race win from the last five starts.

The Hungarian didn’t make a great start but managed to resist Hahn at the first corner and was able to manage a useful gap until the chequered flag.

Lacko then took victory in an incident-filled race two, as the Freightliner driver headed home title rival Hahn to claim his seventh win of the campaign.

The start of the encounter featured some frantic action as front row starters David Vrsecky and Gerd Korber went side-by-side into the first two corners, but it was the Czech who emerged in the lead.

Korber was then hit by Vrsecky’s teammate Lacko at Turn 4 and half-spun, but held on to third. However, he was soon overtaken by Hahn, who made a flying start.

Lacko grabs two more wins on Sunday

Lacko took his second victory of the weekend after holding off Kiss on Sunday. The championship leader stretched his points advantage by taking the lead from polesitter Kiss at Turn 3 on the opening lap.

Later on Sunday, Lacko made it a hat-trick with a brilliantly-judged win to extend his points lead, as he chases a maiden FIA ETRC crown.

Steffi Halm continued her tremendous 2017 form by claiming the runner-up position to Lacko after performing the move of the race around the outside of a surprised Korber at Turn 1.

The Reinert Racing ace also took two other podiums during the weekend.

Meanwhile, there was drama heading in to Turn 2 as contact was made between Hahn, Sascha Lenz and Shane Brereton, in turn causing Antonio Albacete to head off in to the barriers in avoidance.

The Spaniard re-joined last with a badly damaged MAN but fought back to claim points for ninth. Hahn later apologised, admitting that it was a suspected brake issue that caused the chain-reaction shunt.

British one-off entries shine

Britons Ryan Smith and Brereton stood out over the course of the weekend in a pair of rare FIA ETRC forays.

Smith, driving the OXXO Energy Racing MAN entry, finished on the podium in race two, and also claimed a fifth and a sixth place finish to complete a successful outing, his first since the season-opener at the Red Bull Ring.

Brereton, in what was his first appearance in the 2017 FIA ETRC, produced a stellar performance, scoring a hat-trick of wins in the Promoter’s Cup for privateers. His best overall result was sixth place in race three.
