George Russell starts from pole position, having led an all-British 1-2-3 in qualifying at Silverstone.

Eight-time British Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton joins his Mercedes team-mate on the front row, with Lando Norris starting third for McLaren and he is joined by reigning F1 world champion Max Verstappen – just seven days on from their clash at the Austrian GP.

The grid is filling up with celebs and stars of all kinds. It is bedlam, if truth be told, as Martin Brundle gets turned down twice for an interview with Brian May...

This weekend we've also been enjoying the F1 film hype, with the title, er, F1, announced on Friday. Here's the first look at the film that comes out next year:

 

Well, everyone except Perez... who will start the British GP from the pitlane. He qualified 19th after an off in Q1, but he's been given a fresh engine and other parts so heads off the grid as a result. The pressure is mounting on the Red Bull driver given his poor run of form.

Hamilton has switched to the softs for his final tour to the grid. The pitlane is closed so everyone is lining up on the grid now - the next time they'll tour Silverstone will be the formation lap at 3pm. Ferrari has told Sainz over team radio that they expect no more rain, but the next shower will come an hour into the race.

As the track is currently described as wet the drivers have used the intermediate tyres for the laps to the grid but, right now, it looks fine for slick tyres for the start. Will that be the case in 30 minutes when the lights go out? Your guess is as good as mine, this is Silverstone and the British weather we are talking about!

With the drivers on their laps to the grid, they are getting their first assessment of conditions. By my count we've had at least three rain showers today, and the track is once again drying out under a sunny sky. "There's no standing water whatsoever, but the track feels very slippery. Quite strange," is polesitter Russell's assessment over team radio.

In that race, Clark led home a Lotus 1-2 from Hill but Stewart retired due to an engine breakdown. Could we see history repeating itself, given we have a Mercedes front-row lockout?

Saturday's qualifying set this one up pretty nicely, with the first British 1-2-3 in F1 qualifying since the 1968 South African GP. On that weekend it was Jim Clark on pole from Lotus team-mate Graham Hill and Matra's Jackie Stewart in third. This time around it is Russell from Mercedes team-mate Hamilton and McLaren's Norris in third.
