The FIA entry list for 2002 is causing some confusion as there seems to be a switch from the normal arrangement as the teams are not listed in the order which they finished the 2001 Championship. As Sauber finished 4th they therefore should in theory be given the numbers 7 and 8. For some reason those numbers have been given to Renault and Sauber allocated 16 and 17, the same as last season. Between the two Honda teams BAR has been listed before Jordan, despite the fact that Jordan finished 2 points ahead. Arrows finished 10th in the Contructors but has retained it's numbers 14 and 15 from this year, although those numbers should really belong to Renault. It's possible the system has been altered so teams can use numbers in their marketing campaigns without having to change ranges of merchandise because of the results.

In other notable points, Jordan does not list Benson and Hedges as a title sponsor since B&H have reduced their involvement. Jordan allegedly tried to sign a deal with Vodaphone but they were taken by Ferrari. BAR have reduced their title of "Lucky Strike Reynard British American Racing Honda" to the less of a mouthful "Lucky Strike BAR Honda." Arrows make no mention of Ford or Cosworth, Red Bull has disappered from Sauber and Prost Grand Prix failed to nominate an engine at all. This points to the team not having an agreement with Ferrari for supplying engines next year. Despite Renault hinting that the team didn't want to continue links with tobacco companies Mild Seven is still the major sponsor of the Renault sport team. The team will be "Mild Seven Renault F1" and the cars will simply be known as Renaults in the same way as Ferrari and Toyota.
