Nick Heidfeld and Felipe Massa started in the top 10 for Team Sauber Petronas in today's Australian Grand Prix, but unfortunately both were eliminated in the accident at the first corner on the opening lap.
Nick Heidfeld (Driver)
"I could see a big accident developing ahead of me and tried to keep to
the inside to avoid trouble. Unfortunately I couldn't avoid getting caught
up in the aftermath. It would have been better for me if the race had been
stopped, but that's racing."
Felipe Massa (Driver)
"I didn't intend my first Grand Prix to end this way! I made a good start
and then saw the big crash in front. I slowed down and went to the inside,
and I got through the first corner without hitting anyone or anything, but
then Fisichella caught me from behind and that was it. My race was over."
Peter Sauber (Team Principal)
"I'm sorry for both Nick and Felipe because they did a good job all
weekend, and I'm sorry for the team, which brought two very competitive
cars to the grid. Now we will just focus on our preparation for Malaysia,
where our season will really begin."
