Australian Grand Prix driver ratings

Several leading drivers started 2018 on the back foot after disappointing performances in the Australian Grand Prix, while the best drive of all went cruelly unrewarded.

44 Lewis Hamilton
Mercedes F1 W09

Start: 1st
Finish: 2nd
Strategy: 1 stop (ultrasoft/soft)

Rating: 9

Hamilton delivered a stunning pole lap, albeit inadvertently helped by Daniel Ricciardo backing him up on his second Q3 out-lap and aiding rear-tyre preparation.

He would certainly have won without the team's VSC blunder, although he has to be marked down for minor errors in an admittedly near-impossible chase of Vettel in the second half of the race.
