The German's best lap of 1:22.852 was set in the morning with supersoft tyres and meant Ferrari has been quickest in five of the eight days of testing this year.

Vettel covered 142 laps on the day to finish ahead of the Toro Rosso of Carlos Sainz, who managed 133 laps.

The Spaniard was the only driver in the top five to set his best time of the session using the new ultrasoft tyres.

Felipe Massa in the Williams and Sergio Perez in the Force India wound up third and fourth, both posting their best times with supersofts, like Vettel.

Perez caused the second red flag of the day one hour into the afternoon when he stopped at Turn 11.

World champion Lewis Hamilton wrapped up his pre-season programme in the morning before handing over the Mercedes to Nico Rosberg for the afternoon.

Hamilton finished in fifth place, his best time set on medium tyres, and saw his car stop on track for the first time this year with a transmission problem late in the morning.

Rosberg was slowest of all after 70 laps.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo (sixth) and Jenson Button in the McLaren (seventh) also broke the 100-lap barrier. In the Briton's case, his best time was set with the ultrasofts.

Jolyon Palmer finished eighth for Renault ahead of Marcus Ericsson in the Sauber.

Haas split its running between Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez in order to give the Mexican more track time following the problems he suffered earlier in the week.

Grosjean ran in the morning and the early afternoon and managed 66 laps on his way to the 10th fastest time of the day.

Gutierrez took over with an hour left and completed 25 laps.

Manor had a shorter day of running after being unable to complete more than just an installation lap in the morning due to a mechanical problem.

Rio Haryanto got a more productive afternoon, however, and ended up with 57 laps.
