Rubens Barrichello is hoping his new season will finally take off at the first European race, the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, when he will drive the F2002 competitively for the first time. Ferrari team mate Michael Schumacher already put the new car through its paces in Brazil recently, winning at the Interlagos circuit in the F2002's first race.

After making an early charge to take the lead in last year's car, Barrichello retired from the Brazilian GP with hydraulic failure -- his eighth retirement from his home race in as many years and a disappointment after the reliability of the F2001. But he is determined not to let his bad luck get him down; he believes his time will come and hopefully it will come in San Marino with the new car, which will be his 150th Grand Prix start.

"I've been in the lead three times and I've retired three times, that means that sooner or later I will win," Barrichello said. My championship starts at Imola, with the new car. For the moment, I have showed that I've improved compared to last year, and that I can fight for the podium even when I start from eighth place on the grid.'
