"It was difficult. We've got some problems with the power of the engine and in the fast corners, though I'm quite happy with the car in the slower corners.

"At this circuit it's very important to have a good engine - especially as the main straight is very long and a good place to find time. But we've been seven or eight tenths slower than other people there, so that's been difficult. We have to work on this, but while it's frustrating, I believe in Benetton and Renault and I know we'll be much more competitive when we have more power, which will come soon."

"It was a tough one! The first timed lap wasn't too bad but I had a problem because (Juan Pablo) Montoya threw it in the gravel in front of me. Then we made a few changes on the car, which helped, and I improved about four-tenths on my second run. Then on my third I made up another three tenths but on the last run, though I pushed, I ended up 20th, which is a bit disappointing."

"That's the best that I could have got out of the car. I'm half a tenth off Giancarlo's time and we've been close to each other all week, but that's just the best I could get from it. The whole grid is pretty close in terms of time, but it's very difficult down where we are, as a tenth would only have moved us up to 19th..."

Mike Gascoyne "It was a difficult session, but actually we had a reasonable trouble-free day from a reliability point of view which is a step forward. Qualifying was very tight - we're 18th and 20th but only two and a bit seconds off pole - so we're pretty much where we expected to be in terms of lap times compared to the top guys, but obviously disappointed to have slipped further down the times."
