Brailian Grand Prix - Driver Preview

The Mild Seven Renault F1 Team drivers Jenson Button and Jarno Trulli are optimistic for the Brazilian Grand Prix following an impressive performance that almost secured the team a podium place at the previous race in Malaysia.

Button finished fourth in Renault's second Grand Prix since their return to Formula 1 as a full works team, and narrowly missed out on third place when a last-lap suspension failure slowed the car dramatically.

However, the young Briton is confident of performing strongly in Brazil: "It would be nice to get on the podium. Hopefully, I might get the chance to do that and to achieve what I missed out on at the last race in Sepang.

"We can't compete with the quickest teams on pure pace at the moment, but if the circumstances fall in our favour again we could get there. We shall have to wait and see where we qualify and then see what happens in the race."

Italian Trulli failed to finish at Sepang due to an engine problem, but he has already put the difficult weekend in Malaysia behind him and is looking forward to an improved showing at Interlagos, one of his favourite circuits.

"I am hoping to continue the team's strong performances in the last two races, and to get as close as possible to the top three teams," said Trulli. "I am confident we will be competitive in Brazil and looking forward to the race.

"I like the circuit a lot. It is a technical circuit with many different types of high and low speed corners. It is very good for overtaking because the first corner follows a long straight where we can slipstream, and there is another heavy braking zone at the end of the back straight."

Both drivers will have to cope with temperatures similar to those in Malaysia, but the most significant challenge for the drivers at this race will be the anticlockwise nature of the Interlagos circuit.

However, the intensive training that the pair have been put through as part of the Mild Seven Renault F1 Team's Performance programme will have prepared them well for the gruelling race.

"Interlagos runs in the opposite direction to most of the circuits on the Grand Prix calendar and that really works the neck on the other side to normal," explained Button. "But we have been concentrating on this in training and I am confident that I will be able to cope with the challenge."
