Lewis Hamilton
Rating: 9
Hamilton could not have won without Verstappen's misfortune, but Bottas's struggles in comparison show the Mercedes wasn't the car of choice on race day. Though the champion's pole lap wasn't perfect, on both Q3 runs he set a time good enough for the top spot. In an occasionally fraught race of tyre concerns and engine worries, second place was already a very good result. Many drivers wouldn't have won facing these circumstance.

Valtteri Bottas
Rating: 6
Bottas declared his race a bad one that sums up the season over the radio on the slow-down lap, and you can understand why. He couldn't manage the rear tyres as effectively as Hamilton, sliding from second on the first lap down to fifth after having to make a second stop. At times he was arguably a little soft in battle, and he perhaps should have been on the front row. His weekend looked like hard work.
