Bridgestone corporation of Japan's Formula One tire test program is up and running. Bridgestone, which plans to enter competition in 1988, conducted its first full-scale tests this past week at the Silverstone circuit in England, site of the British Grand Prix. Formula One driver Jos Verstappen, piloted the Arrows FA17/02, powered by a Hart V8 engine. Bridgestone engineers evaluated over 190 tires during the session. The Silverstone exam was the second outing for Bridgestone. Earlier this month the company debuted its F1 program at the Suzuka track in Japan, the location of that country's F1 Grand Prix. Bridgestone has an aggressive program scheduled for the remainder of this year in Europe and Japan. Bridgestone Corporation, with headquarters in Tokyo, is the world's largest tire and rubber manufacturer, producing a com- plete line of tires which accounts for 75 percent of its global sales. Bridgestone also produces a wide range of chemical products, sporting goods and industrial rubber products sold in more than 150 nations worldwide.
