Martin Brundle has revealed details of his cameo in the upcoming F1 movie. The former Formula 1 driver turned Sky Sports F1 presenter is set to appear in the highly anticipated film alongside lead commentator David Croft.

Croft previously explained how Lewis Hamilton, who is an executive producer on the film, insisted that he and Brundle be involved for "authentic commentary."

“[Hamilton] said, ‘If you want to make it authentic commentary, you need Martin and Crofty. I really appreciated that,” Croft explained to The Times.

“Martin and I, we’ve done five or six sessions, including filming in a commentary box. Hopefully it sounds as authentic as a normal commentary because they did allow Martin and I to veer off script and call it how we’d call it, which is great.

“He’s the expert, he’s the analyst, he’s the man that’s gone and driven cars and raced in these cars, and I’m the broadcaster, the journalist, who’s not afraid to go, right, ‘what do you mean by that?’”

Brundle hilariously joked over the Canadian Grand Prix weekend that he isn't worried about the reviews on his appearance because he "doesn't care," while also sharing his hopes for the film to push the sport to the next level beyond what Netflix's Drive to Survive has already done.

"We did 19 hours in a studio in London late afternoon, and Joe [Kosinski] was in LA," the former F1 driver explained on Sky Sports F1 in Montreal. "Because they wanted to just finesse all the bits of action, then the action changed, and then the storyline changed a bit, so we'd do it all again. The attention to detail was very, very impressive.

"Crofty did a bit of ad libbing, but that's... he's always got a ready word, hasn't he? And the right word, it must be said."

The World Premiere for F1 is set to take place at Radio City Hall in New York City, with 4,000 expected to be in attendance, including the current F1 drivers.

"No, you know what, they're pushing it," Brundle continued. "Formula 1's pushing it hard. Apple, Warner Bros., everybody. So it's great for the sport. Drive to Survive is the biggest thing in the 40-odd years I've been around it. By a mile, Drive to Survive is the biggest thing that’s happened to Formula 1. And it will be really interesting to see what this does."

F1 will be released internationally on 25 June and in North America on 27 June.
