Button expected Magnussen's time to be deleted

The McLaren driver was knocked out in the first qualifying segment after being outpaced by Renault driver Magnussen.

Button therefore got out of his car and was walking towards the weighbridge when he was told to run back to his garage.

The Briton swiftly got his helmet back on and got into the car, only to be told he would not be running.

"Supposedly Kevin drove off the circuit in three places," said Button afterwards. "I don't know, I haven't seen it.

"We thought he'd get his lap taken away, but as soon as Q2 starts it's game over," he added.

"It's a shame they can't do something before Q2 starts, but as soon as Q2 starts it's game over for us."

Button ruled out trying to get Magnussen's time deleted now.

"It was either challenge for Q3 and be where we are now, so one place doesn't make any difference," he said.

The Briton's session was compromised by a rear wing problem that meant he was unable to complete another run.

"The rear wing came detached going trough Turn 8. It just slowly deteriorated from there with the rear end of the car, we lost a lot of downforce. That was it, really.

"We tried to fix it to go out again, but there wasn't enough time.

"It doesn't seem very lucky for me this weekend. It's been pretty tricky with issues all weekend."
