Button looks ahead to Bahrain

Having visited the new Bahrain GP circuit during its construction, BAR's Jenson Button enjoys a head-start over some rivals.

"I went out to Bahrain last year, and although it looked like quite a difficult circuit, there was no asphalt down when I was there so I don't know exactly what to expect," reports Button. "Obviously we all know that the potential challenges are going to be the heat and sand being blown onto the track, but it is the same for everyone, and we will address any challenges we come across."

"We are all experienced drivers and teams, and we know how to work at new circuits, so I don't think there will be anything unusual. The first sets of tyres on any circuit never works that well, but as soon as you put on the second set, you're normally right on the pace. It's actually quite amazing how quickly you can pick up a circuit."

"The circuit looks to be similar to Malaysia in that there are high and low-speed corners, and it's quite a wide track. They've designed it well for overtaking, and there are some corners that look like they will be challenging and fun to drive."

"Anthony Davidson (BAR third driver) will run before us on Friday so we will see how his car is for set-up. Although the engineers have simulated the track, it's difficult to know what you are going to get until you are there."

"As a country, Bahrain is a cool place with some exciting places to visit, and I think the Grand Prix will be great for the drivers and the spectators. When I visited last year, a few people recognised us, which was surprising, as there has never been a race in the region before. There seem to be a lot of motor racing supporters who are excited about the race, and I think that will make for a really good atmosphere."
