Sauber Petronas Canadian Grand Prix preview

Willy Rampf (Technical Director):

"Some parts of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Montreal's Ile Notre Dame are extremely quick. The cars reach their top speed of more than 320 km/h on the section from the hairpin down to the final corner and again a very high speed going past the pits and prior to braking for the first corner. But most of the corners on this track are medium-speed and slow-speed corners which would require a higher of down-force and excellent traction. So setting up the cars is a quit a compromise to find the right aero configuration for the quickest lap time."

"Montreal is also the hardest circuit on brakes, because of the slow corners that follow each quick section. Brake cooling is essential for race, but also a good controllability of the brakes is important to have the necessary stability at the end of the braking. Fuel consumption tends to be high here, due to the hard acceleration from the slow corners, this has to be considered for the race strategy. Most parts of the track are very narrow, so overtaking is even more difficult than usual."

Nick Heidfeld (40 GPs, 5 World Championship points):

"I'm looking to racing again in Montreal. I like the circuit, with its mixture of fast and slow corners. It's very different from Monaco and after the way that the Sauber Petronas C20 performed there last year I am sure that the C21 will go even better. I love the city and the country, and I'm feeling optimistic about the forthcoming weekend."

Felipe Massa (7 GPs, 3 World Championship points):

"I haven't raced before on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, but I am confident of learning it quickly. Our car is competitive on this type of track, so I'm very much looking forward to the race."
