As it's all change in Formula One this year, with a new FIA President, new teams; a new era we got to thinking what would happen if some other people got a chance to run the show. This race:
IF F1 WAS RULED BY... THE PARTNERS AT HOME
1. Every team member would be forced to call home twice a day at a reasonable hour and no, the phrase 'I'm not drunk, I jush love you, soooo mush' is not an acceptable greeting.
2. A strict 2130hrs curfew would exist for all paddock pass holders. Though the opportunity will exist to keep the light on until 2230hrs to do the children's homework.
3. Journalists lazily reminding their children what they look like by standing in front of the television cameras on the grid on race day would be outlawed.
4. F1 teams would be forbidden from employing anyone called Candi (with an i) whose sole qualifications include being 'really nice', 'pretty' and 'you know... she wears that shirt really well'.
5. Magny Cours would feature on the calendar three times hosting the French, Luxembourg and err Vichy Grands Prix. No one, I mean, NO ONE can get in trouble in Magny Cours right?
6. Any other race likely to present an opportunity for 'trouble' would be scrapped. That means no Melbourne, Monaco, Montreal, Barcelona, Budapest...
7. The three-week summer gap would be followed by the Autumn Long Weekend, the October Mini-Break and the Pre-Final Round Weekend at Your Mothers' Because I'm Damned if I'm Going to See the Old Witch on My Own Again.
8. Flyaways would result in a mandatory 'long haul tax', usually in the form of something sparkly, expensive and in a gift-wrapped box with Cartier printed on the front. A bottle of duty free gin or a 'nice scarf' would not qualify.
Car 5 SEBASTIAN VETTEL
1st Practice P5, 2nd Practice P5
"That was good, we had no big issues and the car was working fine. We did quite a lot of laps so it was a solid day. It looks very close; the Mercedes look competitive, as well as the McLarens and Ferraris. It will be tight tomorrow, but we will see. I had a good race here in 2007 when I finished fourth for Toro Rosso and then last year with the victory, so there are a lot of good emotions and memories attached to this place."
Car 6 MARK WEBBER
1st Practice P8, 2nd Practice P6
"That was pretty good; it was our first really clean Friday, which was encouraging. We have a lot of stuff go through tonight about how the tyres are round here -- it's the first track where they are behaving a little differently to other venues. I think qualifying is going to be tight again and there's supposed to be a bit of moisture floating around on Sunday afternoon, so it looks like the fans will yet again be given an action packed race. I'll look forward to the challenge and to getting something out of it."
