David Coulthard, who starts his second season with Red Bull this weekend, has an eye on staying with the team in 2007 now Adrian Newey is on board. Coulthard worked with the highly regarded designer at both Williams and McLaren and was instrumental in bringing Newey to Red Bull earlier this year.

The Scot believes that Newey, whose cars have won 13 combined drivers' and constructors' titles, can work his magic at Red Bull. Newey arrived too late to have much influence on this year's RB2 but Coulthard expects there will be improvements through the season.

"My motivation is to be in an Adrian-influenced Red Bull in 2007," Coulthard, whose contract expires this year, told the BBC. "Obviously the success of teams Adrian worked for is not been entirely down to him. The (car) design was led by him. But it's not a solo effort. He needed the team of people around him."

"But it's inevitable that I expect it to make a difference. That's the logic behind the investment. Within a few months we should start to feel the influence, but of course next year will be the biggest step because it will be part of an integrally-designed package."

Red Bull will be watched with great interest in 2006. With its increased competitiveness last season and now Newey's presence, the energy drink manufacturer squad is starting to look like an attractive prospect for other drivers who may be looking for a new race seat for 2007.

Coulthard is aware of that but said there is no point in worrying about things outside his control. "My whole career there's always been someone wanting to be in the seat I was in, probably more so at McLaren I have to say than now, but that may change if things progress the way we'd like them to," he remarked. "But that's part of the business."

Red Bull experienced its fair share of problems over the winter and both Coulthard and teammate Christian Klien have been cautious about how the team will fare this weekend in Bahrain. The RB2 suffered from overheating issues recently and has yet to complete a race distance. The car is due to be officially presented at Bahrain on Thursday.
