From seemingly not being in the running for a race seat with Red Bull, David Coulthard now appears to be a serious contender. Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi have been testing for Red Bull so far this winter and Klien is a favourite to race for the team in 2005. Liuzzi, however, is in doubt due to his inexperience and Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz has spoken favourably about Coulthard recently.

The Scot himself is dropping hints. "I can't say today I will drive for Red Bull Racing but maybe in a few days I can say that," Coulthard commented, according to the BBC. "Their position is that they are the team that's most likely because of the availability they have and the position they are in."

Coulthard was competing in the Race of Champions at the Stade de France this weekend and when asked about his future, he suggested that he would be in competition in 2005. "I'm going to be on the grid in Formula One and we just need to put everything in order before making the announcement," he said.

While Red Bull appears to be the current focus for Coulthard, there is still a vacancy at Williams. Nick Heidfeld tested for the team last week and will do so again this coming week. Coulthard does not appear to be under consideration by Williams but until a driver line up is confirmed, there's always a chance.

"There are no doors closed," said Coulthard. "Until someone signs a contract there's always hope and always possibilities. One test is not going to make or break anyone. It's their business how they want to go about evaluating their drivers."
