Time is running out for David Coulthard but the Scot is not yet ready to hang up his helmet for good. There's only one more race this season and Coulthard does not have a contract for 2005; Juan Pablo Montoya will replace him at McLaren next year. If Coulthard ends up out of a race seat, he will be aiming to return in 2006.

"I'm not ready to retire," he told Reuters. "I'll try and get a drive for next year and if I don't then I'll try and get one the following year."
"I think I have the pace, the desire, the commitment and the overtaking ability to be competitive but until I sign a contract for next season I've got nothing. It's as simple as that. I hope Brazil won't be my last grand prix. I'll do what I can to make sure I'm on the grid for next season."
Coulthard failed to finish the Japanese GP after a clash with Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello. "I don't think anybody is to blame; it's just one of those things which happen when you are battling for positions," he said of the incident, which damaged his front suspension.
"It was disappointing, but the whole last two years have been disappointing," Coulthard added. "You just have to accept it." The Scot has not been on the podium this year, his best finish being fourth in Germany.
Now that he is leaving McLaren, he feels that the team is not giving him as much support as previously. "I'm not saying the team's against me but naturally their resources go into where they're investing for the future," he commented.
