Doornbos shines again in free practices

In today's Free Practises ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, Robert Doornbos put down an impressive performance again. At the 4.627 kilometer long Circuit de Catalunya, the 24-year old test and reserve driver of Red Bull Racing finished the day in a conspicious second position, after having topped the timesheets even for a while!

Doornbos ended the first Free Practise session between 11:00 and 12:00 hours already in a notable sixth position after focussing himself mainly on finding a good car set-up. As rain had hit the track a few hours before practise started, not many drivers came in action as the track surface was still quite slippery. With both track and weather conditions improving continiously throughout the session, Doornbos managed to drive 20 laps at the popular circuit among teams and drivers.

In the afternoon session Doornbos completed his usual programme for Red Bull Racing. After having evaluated the two types of tyres Michelin brought with them for this race in two consecutive runs of eight laps each, Doornbos ended the session with two so-called performance comparison runs. And not without success, as the Dutchman set the fastest laptime of the entire field with still 15 minutes to go. Only minutes before the session ended, Anthony Davidson improved the provisional pole time, putting Doornbos one place back to second position.

"Today was 'business as usual', but definitely one to cherish. I'm happy it stayed dry, as our programme was prepared for this type of weather. Our tyre choice will be quite clear, and I have to say the car also behaved very consistant today and was pretty quick even in longruns. Hopefully, Christian and DC can have just a positive day tomorrow, as I enjoyed today!"
