ROBERT DOORNBOS SHOWS IMPRESSIVE SPEED IN MONACO STREETS!
Superman returns! While the Red Bull Energy Station is transformed into the Daily Planet's headquarters, Robert Doornbos took the team's leading role today by almost topping the timesheets again. At the 3.340 kilometer long Monte Carlo streetcourse, Red Bull Racing's test and reserve driver succesfully completed a busy programme and finished the day in a notable fifth position!

In the first Free Practise session ahead of the 65th Monaco Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing mainly concentrated on finding a suitable set-up for the RB2. As the streets of Monte Carlo are used as a racetrack only once a year, the grip level increased continiously throughout the first few sessions. Therefore the teams and drivers had to adapt their cars on every outing they did.
To prepare theirselves as well as possible for Sunday's 78 lap race, David Coulthard, Christian Klien and Robert Doornbos started their programme with similar fuel loads and available sets of tyres. After having lapped the 3.340 kilometer long track 23 times, Doornbos finished the opening session in ninth position, about one-and-a-half second behind the fastest time set by World Champion Fernando Alonso.
The afternoon session between 14:00 and 15:00 hours was characterized by three short interruptions after various drivers hit the barriers at the unique Mediterranean streetcourse. After his usual two runs to evaluate both compounds of the Michelin tyres, Doornbos was again assigned to do a performance comparison run.
Though he was hindered in the first two laps of this run by traffic, Doornbos still managed to get the best out of his tyres in his third lap. With a personal best time of 1:16.292, Doornbos again finished in the top 5 close behind the fastest man of today, Alexander W?rz. Notable detail: the 24-year old Dutchman completed 35 laps this afternoon!
Robert Doornbos:
"Quite a busy day! This morning we somewhat changed our programme, as it makes no sense to agressively evaluate our tyres in Free Practise 01 here. Also this afternoon we started our programme with quite a heavy fuelload, before we decided to simulate a performance comparison run."
"It's a pity I was blocked twice by a Super Aguri, but in my third lap I still managed to set a decent laptime. It's not really important we could have achieved a better result today. What counts most is that we are very happy that the Michelins have shown that they are also competitive over a series of laps. Hopefully we will be able to fight for points here this weekend!"
