Encouraging start for Jaguar

Jaguar Racing's Italian Grand Prix weekend got off to an encouraging start in the first practice session at the Monza circuit, where test driver Bjorn Wirdheim set eighth fastest time.

Race drivers Mark Webber and Christian Klien completed a more limited programme of running, doing just seven laps each, and were respectively 18th and 21st.

"The basic balance of the car is good," reported Dr Mark Gillan, "though obviously we'll have to adapt as the weekend goes on and the track builds its grip."

"That isn't such a big issue as at some recent tracks however because there was a major test here last week so the circuit's in pretty good condition. We've got some useful data on tyre compound comparison and in addition Bjorn was doing some evaluating of two alternative rear wings."

"Mark and Christian will do the bulk of their running this afternoon and use up their engine mileage and tyre allocation when the track is in more favourable shape."
