After another series of medical checks, the doctors have confirmed that Luciano Burti will have to keep away from racing until at least the end of December. The Prost Acer driver who suffered a terrible accident at the Belgian Grand Prix (Sept 2nd 2001) did not take part in the Italian race last week-end in Monza. He announced today that he will also miss the last two rounds of the 2001 Championship, the U.S.A. and the Japanese Grands Prix.

"The doctors have strongly recommended me not to go back to racing this year", explained the Brazilian driver." The reason is that the accident in Belgium was very serious, and if ever I had another trauma in my head, the consequences would be worse. Doctor Hartstein told me I have to keep on resting until at least the end of December. Only after that date, I can think about my future and what I will do" ended Burti.

Having been informed of Luciano's unavailability, the Prost Acer team has decided to take the option on Tomas Enge to compete alongside Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the last two rounds of the 2001 season. Despite having been called at short notice to stand in for Luciano, Tomas did a very good job for the team at the Italian Grand Prix last week-end. With only a two day experience of the Prost Acer AP04 gathered during a test session at the Magny-Cours track, he managed to qualify for his first Formula One race ever and to finish the Grand Prix in 12th position.

Since Tomas Enge will now focus on getting ready for the two overseas races left on the calendar, the Prost Acer team is pleased to announce that they have nominated young hopeful Czech driver Jaroslav Janis to become their test driver alongside Jonathan Cochet until the end of the year 2001. After early years in Kart, Jaroslav made his way up through the German, French and European Formula Ford Championship, and finally entered the German Formula 3 Championship in the middle of the 2001 season. He made a stong impression in the last two years by setting strong performances in all the categories he competed in, among which Formula Renault, Formula Palmer, Prototypes and GT. He had his first F3000 racing experience last week-end in Monza when he was elected to replace Tomas Enge in the Coca-Cola Nordic Racing Team.

Joan Villadelprat, Prost Grand Prix Managing Director
"Luciano took a wise decision to listen to the doctors' advice and we are very confident he will totally recover from his accident. We will keep on watching his progress and supporting him as much as possible in the coming months.

As regards to Tomas’ performance in Monza, we were very happy with the work he did for us. He proved to be a hard-worker, enthusiastic and intelligent driver. What he has shown at the Italian Grand Prix convinced us to think that Tomas is the best possible choice to support the team's efforts in the remainder of the 2001 Championship."
