Fifth Bridgestone pole of 2004 as Schumacher sets Nurburgring alight!
Michael Schumacher stormed to his fifth pole of the 2004 season this afternoon in front of his home crowds, setting a time of 1minute 28.351 seconds - more than six tenths faster than his nearest rival. After the disappointment of the Monaco GP, the World Champion was determined to make a statement and the German will line up tomorrow in pole position for an incredible 60 time in his Formula One career. Teammate Rubens Barrichello set the seventh fastest time and Jordan Ford's Nick Heidfeld lines up next for Bridgestone.
Hisao Suganuma, Technical Manager of Bridgestone Motorsport:
"A Bridgestone equipped car on pole again fantastic! Our congratulations to Michael on his fifth pole of the season. We saw this afternoon that the Bridgestone tyres are capable of giving our drivers the turn of speed they need. We already knew from the practices that the tyres are consistent in race trim so I'm sure our teams will be competitive tomorrow. As we've seen on previous occasions our teams should all be able to make maximum use of the Bridgestone Potenzas to climb up through the field tomorrow."
Ross Brawn, Technical Director of Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro:
"That was a fantastic performance from Michael an unbelievable lap! The Bridgestone tyres are very, very good and consistent. We had some concerns initially about the first lap performance so we worked hard this morning to find a way of making them work on the first lap and Michael really got on top of that. I'm looking forward to the race tomorrow because the car is good. If we can get a clean start we should have a good race tomorrow."
